With the international trade landscape shifting at warp speed, it is helpful to step back and re-evaluate AI’s role in the securing global supply chains. Global Trade Magazine’s author Indiana Lee does just that in her article “Global Trade Security in the Age of AI” published April 7, 2025.

The article covers background information on cybersecurity, the need for human oversight, the importance of AI training with all key stakeholders and, finally, how to maximize the benefits of AI in the global marketplace.

Opinions aside, all can agree that AI continues to reshape supply chain security and augment businesses’ ability to anticipate, identify and correct impending risks.

It is impossible for business to survive without the benefit that AI brings, but AI cannot do it alone. While predictive analytics make it possible to stay on top of risk mitigation, the article emphasized it is “prudent to note here that the rapid pace of AI development underscores the importance of integrating automation with human oversight.” Human judgement is critical. Data is only helpful in light of the circumstance in which it is found and leveraged.

Businesses that simultaneously embrace AI, create an environment open to learning about rapidly changing technology, and appreciate the value of human insight are better poised to survive unexpected shocks. (Link to the full article: https://lnkd.in/e9Ff48rp)
